Know who in Portugal defends them"},"content":{"rendered":"<!-- RS_MODULE_CODE_2.5.3 --> <div id=\"readspeaker_button18593\" class=\"rs_skip rs_preserve\"><a class=\"rs_href\" title=\"Ouvir com ReadSpeaker\" href=\"https:\/\/app-eu.readspeaker.com\/cgi-bin\/rsent?customerid=6394&amp;lang=pt_pt&amp;readid=rspeak_read_18593&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.provedor-jus.pt%2Fen%2Fwp-json%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fposts%2F18593\" onclick=\"readpage(this.href, 'xp18593'); return false;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.provedor-jus.pt\/wp-content\/plugins\/enterprise_expanding_hl_wordpress-2x\/img\/icon_16px.gif\" alt=\"Ouvir com ReadSpeaker\" style=\"display: inline-block; margin-right: 5px;\"\/>Ouvir<\/a><\/div><div id=\"xp18593\" class=\"rs_addtools rs_splitbutton rs_preserve rs_skip rs_exp\"><\/div><div id=\"rspeak_read_18593\"><p>Today is International Human Rights Day, when the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), which lists the basic rights for everyone.<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\">In Portugal, since 1999 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.provedor-jus.pt\/en\/who-we-are\/faq\/\">Ombudsman <\/a> has been, along with the role of defender of the citizen in the face of possible abuses of public administrations, the National Human Rights Institution, accredited by the United Nations with status A, in full compliance with the Principles of Paris.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\">As a result, the Ombudsman is the privileged interlocutor in Portugal of the international institutions that accompany the signatory states&#8217; fulfillment of the rights enshrined in the Declaration, while part of its activity is the constant dissemination of fundamental human rights and their protection, being primarily vigilant about respect for the rights of the most vulnerable: children, elderly and people with disabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\">To summarize and illustrate its activity, the Ombudsman promoted last year a <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\"> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.provedor-jus.pt\/documentos\/70_Anivers_Decl_Univ_Dir_Hum_2.pdf\">new edition of the UDHR <\/a>noting each Human Right with cases and problems that over time it has been called upon to resolve.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\">Alongside the Ombudsman, there are specialized human rights bodies in Portugal, and others to which you can complain.
