The Network includes the national and regional ombudsmen and similar institutions of the Member States of the European Union, the candidate countries for accession to the EU and other countries of the European Economic Area, as well as the European Ombudsman and the Committee on Petitions of the European Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Network was set up in 1996 and is an important mechanism for sharing experiences and good practices between the various national and regional ombudsmen and between them and the European Ombudsman.
