Ombudsman&#8217;s Office takes part in the session that concluded the Universal Periodic Review of Portugal"},"content":{"rendered":"<!-- RS_MODULE_CODE_2.5.3 --> <div id=\"readspeaker_button32436\" class=\"rs_skip rs_preserve\"><a class=\"rs_href\" title=\"Ouvir com ReadSpeaker\" href=\"https:\/\/app-eu.readspeaker.com\/cgi-bin\/rsent?customerid=6394&amp;lang=pt_pt&amp;readid=rspeak_read_32436&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.provedor-jus.pt%2Fen%2Fwp-json%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fposts%2F32436\" onclick=\"readpage(this.href, 'xp32436'); return false;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.provedor-jus.pt\/wp-content\/plugins\/enterprise_expanding_hl_wordpress-2x\/img\/icon_16px.gif\" alt=\"Ouvir com ReadSpeaker\" style=\"display: inline-block; margin-right: 5px;\"\/>Ouvir<\/a><\/div><div id=\"xp32436\" class=\"rs_addtools rs_splitbutton rs_preserve rs_skip rs_exp\"><\/div><div id=\"rspeak_read_32436\">\n<p>On 24 March, the Ombudsman&#8217;s Office took part in the 58th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, which considered and debated the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.un.org\/en\/A\/HRC\/58\/8\">final report<\/a> of the Working Group on the 4th cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Portugal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Represented by the Deputy Ombudsman, Ravi Afonso Pereira, the State body valued Portugal&#8217;s efforts to fulfil its international human rights commitments, drawing attention to the challenges that remain for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.provedor-jus.pt\/documentos\/Statement%20Portuguese%20Ombudman%2058th%20Human%20Rights%20Council.pdf\">two particularly vulnerable groups<\/a>: the elderly and people with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Established in 2006, the UPR is one of the most important instruments of the United Nations Human Rights Council, held every four and a half years in the form of an interactive dialogue between the state under review and the other UN member states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) accredited with \u2018A\u2019 status, the Ombudsman played an active role in this process, submitting observations and recommendations on the human rights situation in Portugal.
