‘Meetings at the Ombudsman’s Office’ opens with debate on human rights, freedom of expression and the media

On 5 May, the Ombudsman’s Office held the first edition of ‘Meetings at the Ombudsman’s Office’, a new initiative aimed at promoting public debate on issues relevant to the exercise of rights and citizenship. The first meeting was dedicated to freedom of expression and the media, also marking World Press Freedom Day.

In an informal format and open to the public, the debate was attended by Teresa Ribeiro (former OSCE representative for Media Freedom), Manuel Carvalho (journalist) and Pedro Lomba (university professor), invited by the Ombudsman, Maria Lúcia Amaral.

The event took place at the Vilalva Palace, the headquarters of the Ombudsman’s Office, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to openness towards society and the active promotion of a culture of human rights.
