Ombudsman joins conference cycle on Business, Human Rights and the Environment

With the support of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the New Centre on Business, Human Rights and the Environment (NOVA BHRE) is organising, in partnership with the Portuguese Ombudsman, the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, the Teaching Business and Human Rights Forum and NOVA 4 The Globe, a series of online conferences bringing together experts from different fields and representing various stakeholder groups to discuss key issues relating to Business, Human Rights and the Environment.

The topic of Business and Human Rights has attracted increasing attention in recent years as several cases have illustrated that companies can cause, contribute to or be directly linked to human rights violations and environmental damage, both in their own operations and in their value chains around the world.

This series of conferences consists of six events aimed at "linking the dots" between corporate due diligence and issues such as civil liability, private international law, contract and company law, the green agreement, sustainable financing and gender equality, in the light of legislative developments at European level and the current pandemic context.
