The Ombudsman marks the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust

As time goes by, certain events acquire the lightness of a hazy memory, blurred by the frantic pace of everyday life. However, there are moments in our history that cannot be smoothed. In the World War II where thousands of people were killed because of their difference, decimated and abused on behalf of a (pseudo) perfection of the human being cannot be forgotten. We are complete in the diversity of our beliefs, in the variety of our skins, in the variety of our families. In short, we are perfect people when with all our imperfections and differences, our dignity is respected and our fundamental rights acknowledged.
Today is the 71st anniversary of people’s liberation from the Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp. For that reason was established the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust. The Ombudsman, defender of human rights, recalls, with this brief message, all of those who perished or saw their relatives and friends perish in the Nazi concentration and extermination camps and those forever marked with Alphanumeric tattoos.
