Deputy Ombudsman attends the annual conference of the European Network of Ombudsmen

On the eve of the European elections, "The State of European Democracy: How to Enable Citizen Participation" is the theme of the annual conference of the European Network of Ombudsmen, which will be held in Brussels on 8 and 9 April.

Organized by European Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly, the conference will discuss measures to improve participatory democracy in the European Union and will be inaugurated by Michel Barnier, former European Commissioner, former French government minister and most recently chief negotiator of EU for Brexit.

Representing the Ombudsman, Maria Lúcia Amaral, is the Deputy Ombudsman. Joaquim Pedro Cardoso da Costa will talk about the particular challenges, namely in the access to health, that are placed to the institutions that defend the rights of the people when they act in contexts of societies increasingly aging.
