“The Future of Rights is Now”: Award ceremony and opening of human rights exhibition

On 25 September, the Ombudsperson held the award ceremony for the “The Future of Rights is Now” competition, followed by the opening of an exhibition of the entries.

The competition was aimed at children and young people aged between 6 and 18, challenging them to represent their vision of human rights through art. A total of 123 entries were received, involving 251 students from 26 schools in different regions.

Among the themes most frequently addressed by the young people were solidarity, justice, equality and tolerance.

The initiative is part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Ombudsperson, which in Portugal is also the National Human Rights Institution, and was organised in partnership with the Portuguese National Commission for UNESCO and its Associated Schools Network. The jury was composed of Fátima Claudino (UNESCO National Commission), artist Alexandre Farto (Vhils), Professor Luísa Neto, president of the National Institute of Administration, and Miguel Feldmann (coordinator of the National Prevention Mechanism).

The exhibition will be open to the public soon.
