Deputy Ombudsman takes part in a meeting at the European Parliament on the implementation of the European Pact on Migration and Asylum

The Deputy Ombudsman, Ravi Afonso Pereira, took part on 5 May 2026 in a meeting at the European Parliament, in Brussels, within the working groups on the Asylum Pact–CEAS and Schengen and Borders of the LIBE Committee – Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs.

In his intervention, the Deputy Ombudsman outlined the monitoring work carried out by the Ombudsman, in fulfilment of its constitutional mandate to defend fundamental rights, as well as within its role as a National Human Rights Institution and National Preventive Mechanism, regarding the implementation in Portugal of the European Pact on Migration and Asylum, particularly with respect to the framework established by the Screening Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2024/1356).
