National Preventive Mechanism recommends improvement of detention conditions in courts and police facilities
The National Preventive Mechanism has issued four recommendations aimed at improving conditions of detention in courts and police facilities. These recommendations follow the visits to the the Local Instance of Benavente of the Judicial Court of Santarém, the Central Instance of Judicial Court of Santarém, the Police Station of Santarém of Public Security Police and the Central Instance of Judicial Court of Castelo Branco were addressed to the Secretary of State Assistant and of Justice and to the District Commander of Santarém of Public Security Police.
These recommendations focused in the need to adapt detention spaces to regulatory conditions — specially about housing and living conditions, security and surveillance — and the replacement of vehicles used for the transport of persons deprived of liberty.
